Overflowing Confidence

Updated: Jan 16

Joshua 1:9 says: “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

Overflowing Confidence

Has there ever been a moment where you were scared to do something but you did it anyways?

My whole life I’ve been scared of swimming. I decided I was going to be fearless and start swimming lessons which I did. Last week as I went to my swim class I was excited. I had missed the session before that so when I got there my instructor told me the drill we are practicing will prepare us to swim to the end. My mind started to doubt when I passed the life guards. I started to panic, but I told myself either I panic and drown or I can keep going and trust God. I kept going and made it to the end. I was shocked because I never thought I could do that. This was one of the last things I ever imagined myself doing. I was going back and forth on the 25 meter pool with overflowing confidence.

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”

- Joshua 1:9

God called us to be courageous. To be confident. He will never leave us. He goes before us and behind us. God wants us to take the next step even if we are afraid. Even if we are in doubt.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”

-2 Timothy 1:7

So why fear when God is with us? My prayer for us today is that we will step into the next season of our lives with overflowing confidence. That we would continue to trust God and remain faithful when we can’t see the next move.
