Then King Nebuchadnezzar jumped to his feet. He was very surprised and he asked his advisors, “We tied only three men, and we threw only three men into the fire. Is that right?” His advisors said, “Yes, King.” The king said, “Look! I see four men walking around in the fire. They are not tied up and they are not burned. The fourth man looks like an angel.”
- Daniel 3:24-25 ERV
We don't go through the fire alone, He is there with us and simply uses it to glorify Himself. Even when life gets hard and discouragement comes, we can trust that we serve a Mighty God and his faithfulness is beyond comparison. The King of the universe who defies all our understanding.
When we spend time with Him and we listen to Him and follow the steps He orders us to take, it may seem like we are ASKING to be thrown to the fire...and that is exactly how He will be glorified.
He is always working, always moving, whether we see it or feel it, HE IS ALWAYS THERE. He gives us a fresh opportunity to partner with Him daily, to worship Him and be faithful with our thoughts, desires, words and actions.
I bet the Mishael, Hannaniah, and Azariah were scared in their bodies and in their minds, but their spirit, BOUND to the Spirit of The Lord, He gave them boldness to say NO, I will not serve your idols. I refuse to worship anything other than my God!
When we don't choose the fire, we choose an idol.
What idols am I worshiping today?
Comfort, Self, Lust, Fear, Comparison ?
I would rather suffer the adversity of the fire than the adversity of a life not pleasing to God. Whatever we put over our obedience to the Word of The Lord, directly dishonors Him.
Our faithfulness in those afflictions- choosing to say no to worshiping other idols, in spite of what they may say or do to us, taking a stand and saying I will not compromise or waver in the way I am faithful to the Lord, our boldness in our walk, it doesn't DETERMINE our salvation, but as Jen Wilkerson said, “It sure may lead someone to theirs”.
Like the magicians and pharaoh's servants experienced, as the Lord kept showing them. Little by little our restored faithfulness will draw others to the Lord, or convict them to a deeper relationship with Him. Thank you Jesus for choosing to use me. On my own I’ll never be worthy, but with you Christ I am more than worthy and always available.
