- James 3:9-11 9
With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse human beings, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this should not be. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring?
The same question James asked I’ll ask you. Can both fresh water and salt water flow from the same spring? Can we praise God and curse someone out later?
We must be cautious in the things we say. Proverbs 18:21 Says ”The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.”
The things we say ultimately are what is in our hearts. One cannot say their heart is pure and then speak badly about someone. Gossip, hate, and profanity are all ways of speaking death.
A couple of years ago when I started my walk with Christ again I caught myself swearing too often. I started to notice that these words were coming out of my mouth because of the music I listened to, and my words controlled my actions. I slowly started to make a change and listen to worship music until I finally left secular music behind. Ever since I made that change I have been at peace, my heart is full of love and generosity therefore, my words are aligned with the relationship I have with Christ.
Today, I pray that God will transform your heart so that it will change the way you speak. I pray that your words will impact God’s kingdom and that the people around you will come to know their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
