And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him. And the son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and before you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son. But the father said to his servants, & quickly Bring the best robe, and put it on him, and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet. And bring the fattened calf and kill it and let us eat and celebrate. For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found.’ And they began to celebrate. - Luke 15: 20-24
What have been your Fall's?
Those moments in your life, that you’ve felt that you’ve lost everything. How many of you feel unworthy amid your circumstances, consequences, and mistakes? You feel like it's too late. That you are too old. That this time you’ve gone too far and that what you've done is unforgivable. I don't know where you are now, at what phase, in what circumstance. What I do KNOW with certainty is that Love ACTS Before forgiveness is even ASKED. We see this predicament within this story. Forgiveness liberates the Soul, it removes FEAR, exposing your most powerful weapon LOVE. This LOVE can be seen even by the blind. Through the eyes of forgiveness, you are seen for who you are and not what you did. Alexander Pope said: “To Err is human, To forgive Divine”.
There may be some mistakes that some of us cannot even speak of…but there is no mistake that Christ can't forgive, and his forgiveness comes with gifts, here are a few:
1. The Robe
What Falls have made you feel naked?
See what we wear is connected to our identity, believe me, I never underestimated the power of a red lipstick and high heels, and now that I can fit in my clothes differently, the feeling is grand! That's the thing the robe was something he could feel, something tangible. Something that showed him you are Covered, Safe, Restored, Redeemed.
2. The Ring
The ring represented the pact, the bond, the authority, and position to remind him who he was. Your Royalty Baby never forget it! Recently one of my friends got engaged and the expression on her face to now have this ring on her finger was priceless, it's not so much the ring but what it represents, that sense of belonging. How worthy it makes you feel.
3. The Shoes
To remind him that now comes the new path, the new way of walking my son, the newness of
God. Ladies all of us know what shoes do to us!!!! What was he getting his son ready for?
4. The PARTY, THE CELEBRATION!
His Father showed him inside was a new him, a discovering of himself that was his best version and there was a resurrection. Can't you feel it? He's walking waiting for you with Arms wide open, ready to embrace you, kiss you, clothe you and show you that this is just the Beginning.
"Gather your mistakes, Rinse them with honesty and self-reflection, Let dry until you can see every choice and the regret becomes brittle. Cover the entire surface in forgiveness. Remind yourself that you are human… And this too is a gift." - Rudy Francisco
